I was in Hostage Square in Tel Aviv last Saturday night, in a crowd of thousands at the weekly protest for the 58 (at the time, 59) Israeli hostages who remain in Palestinian hands in Gaza.
Not a Jew but someone...who cares deeply about Israel and wants it to win its wars, understands the threats it faces and empathises with its impossible dilemmas; but at the same time, distrusts Netanyahu, despises the far right Ben-Gvir and Smotrich, despairs over this seemingly endless war and worries about the direction this government is taking the Jewish State: there is no landing place for you in British politics and society. No safe space outside the Jewish community to express this combination of views. Exactly fits me
Another excellent and thoughtful piece by Dave Rich. Should be required reading in many places not least the House of Commons, Broadcasting House and throughout Academia.
It is quite simple in my mind, there is so much unjust Jew and Israel hate, that diaspora Jews need to think before they publicise their criticism of Israel and or Netanyahu. It only adds fuel to the fire for the likes of the Guardian, BBC, Channel 4 and the deluded pro Gaza aka Hamas MPs.
If Trump and Qatar can get Edan Alexander released, they can get the remaining 58 hostages freed 🎗️ 🎗️ .. in any other war, Qatar the financiers and the world would tell Hamas to surrender and release the hostages 🎗️🎗️ .. not difficult to know that UNWRA are 100% pro palli, just like the PA .. UNWRA are Hamas, and they have no care for the people of Gaza.
This is why this war is unique. When the Allies had to defeat Hitler, no care was given for the civilians in Dresden when it was flattened.
Diaspora Jews need to be 100% supportive of Israel in public .. no need to add fuel to the fire 🔥 of the Jew and Israel haters.
suspect we have to rephrase the original Ben Gurion statement ' we will fight the war as if there is no Netanyahu, and we will fight Netanyahu as if there is no war'

My Jewish friends all say that they feel safe, finally safe in Israel. Even now during a war.
Thankyou for so often expressing what I cannot find the words to express
Yes, exactly.
Beautifully articulated article. (Disclosure: I’m a Manchester United fan.)
