Thanks again Dave. Your writing often provokes thoughts and connections that I hadn’t previously considered. I’ve been aware of the relative absence of Jewish footballers, but I had never connected it to the fact that talented Jewish players existed before the Holocaust and were murdered before their potential, and their legacy, could continue. It made me think about how important role models are in sport. We see footballing families like the Rooneys, and the impact the Williams sisters have had on generations of Black tennis players. Young people need to see what is possible.

Reading this left me wondering not only about the lives that were lost, but also about the generations of Jewish sporting role models who never got the chance to inspire those who came after them. With warmth
